PHOTOGRAPHING DURING THE 'GOLDEN HOUR'

Family Sunset Photo Sessions

Now that daylight savings has come around again and Spring is upon us, it's the perfect time to book an outdoor photo shoot during the 'Golden Hour' - that means at sunset!

I love photographing family portraits at sunset and this is because of the beautiful light at this time of day. It's warm and pretty and gives off a magical feeling. It also gives me the opportunity to capture some nice sun flares.

Another reason why I love the light at this time of day is because people don't squint. When the sun is high in the sky, even on an overcast day, most people squint their eyes. At sunset, just by simply placing people with the sun behind them means their eyes are comfortable. A lot of children have quite sensitive eyes so this helps immensely!

Locations in Melbourne's Outer East

Kiddy Kats Photography is based in Ferntree Gully, in Melbourne's outer east. This means that I'm spoilt for choice when it comes to great parks! But the two that I love most and I use for photography sessions are The Liverpool Road Retarding Basin in Boronia and an area in Olinda just next next to the RJ Hamer Arboretum, in the Dandenong Ranges. Both parks offer a huge amount of space which means I can still make the photography sessions feel private, and both give a really natural backdrop that looks stunning at sunset.

Energetic Children

If you have children who are at an energetic age and are a bit restless, these photo shoots will most likely suit them better than being in a studio. In a park they can do their own thing and have fun, allowing me to capture natural moments. Some people also prefer this style of photography rather than posing at the camera - however, I like to take a combination of traditional and candid family portraits during my photo sessions. By 'traditional' I mean looking-at-camera, but I also like to capture your family just having fun together... laughing and playing with each other.
